The Wall Street Journal is suddenly indulging in a fit of hand-wringing over privilege? Pardon me, I think my head just exploded.
*Voluntary blogger disclosure: I attended private schools from sixth grade on, and my best friend works for the institution in question.
Amy Carter was the only prezkid to go to public school in modern times. All the others went to Sidwell Friends or Georgetown Day. It’s really the best choice considering that they have “staff,” so to speak. And Malia and Sasha have been going to a private school in Chicago.
Besides, if they went to public school in DC, they’d have to have repeat lessons at the White House and that’s not really fair. Rhee seems to be making a good start, but the schools are still being used only by people who can’t afford private schools. That’s not true further out.
Absolutely, Marilee – I have nothing against private school: when it’s the right choice for the kid, and the parents have the wherewithal, it can be a fantastic thing.
What galls me is the not-exactly-blue-collar WSJ having a case of the vapors over “privilege.”
