Jill's "baby fern" scarf

Materials:

2 balls Rowan "Tapestry" (70% wool, 30% soy), or another vaguely DK-weight yarn that suits you

Size 6 (US) needles, or needles to suit whatever gauge you want (I'm not dictating gauge here: it's a freaking scarf, fer cry-eye)

Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Measurements:

58" long, 4" wide

Directions:

Cast on 27 stitches.

Knit 12 rows (garter stitch), slipping the first stitch of each row wyib (with yarn in back).  The first slipped stitch with the yarn in back gives you a nice, tidy edge.

Fern pattern:

Row 1: Sl1 wyib, k5, p1, k1, p1, k2tog, k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, sl1 k1 psso, p1, k1, p1, k6

Rows 2, 4, and 6: Sl1 wyib, k5, p15, k6

Row 3: Sl1 wyib, k5, p1, k1, p1, k2tog, k1, yo, k3, yo, k1, sl1 k1 psso, p1, k1, p1, k6

Row 5: Sl1 wyib, k5, p1, k1, p1, k2tog, yo, k5, yo, sl1 k1 psso, p1, k1, p1, k6

Lather, rinse, repeat until scarf is the length you desire.  Knit 12 rows (garter stitch), bind off (not too tight!).  Wash, block, and wear with panache.
